The Maywood

In the 1980's, my clients purchased a unique home. It was called, 'The Maywood'- one of many house kits sold by Sears and shipped on the railroad here in Burlington, VT in 1929. For all of the home's quirkiness and vintage appeal, the kitchen was small, confined and quite dark. My clients yearned for a light-filled kitchen that could serve as a centerpiece for their otherwise charming home. It was important that the new design pay respect to the age and style of the orginal, without feeling, as my clients playfully put it: "fuddy-duddy." Their vision was for elements of classic design, with modern feautures and a thoughtfully organized space.
